Nominated for three Academy Awards and two Golden Globes including Best Picture. It is 1984 and, in a northern England mining town, a group of miners are on strike. Eleven-year-old Billy Elliot, whose father and brother are on strike, does not like the boxing lessons he is taking at school and decides to join the girls' ballet class. Billy's talent is encouraged by the ballet teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, who manages to arrange an audition for Billy to the Royal Ballet School. Now Billy must face his family. |
