Walsh Jesuit is feeling the impact of the current economic climate. In the fall of 2005, when the school embarked on its $10 million capital campaign to expand the commons and performing arts area and make other improvements, a construction loan was secured at a very favorable rate. Unfortunately, while $7 million has been raised, changing market conditions and other circumstances prevented a few donors from fulfilling their pledges, leaving Walsh Jesuit about $3 million short.
The shortfall, however, means more than simply adding time to the construction loan.
Walsh Jesuit now must navigate a new financial obstacle. Unless $2.5 million more in pledges can be secured by the end of June 2009, the loan must be renegotiated and likely will result in a significantly higher interest rate. In fact, the school could incur additional expenses of $100,000 annually.
Whether you’re an alumnus, an alumni parent, a current parent, or a friend of Walsh Jesuit, you certainly understand that using donations to pay a higher interest rate is wrong for the school in so many ways.
Any gift — REGARDLESS OF SIZE — is appreciated and needed. When combined, even small gifts become powerful. What’s more, no payment is needed by June 2009 — only your pledge of support.
